2004 Yearly Report

THE GORDONS

It has been quite a year for Region 2.  The membership has been actively involved in the concerns of American Mensa, and as such, there has been much discussion on how we will face the concerns of the future of the organization.  With their help, we will be able to take the group into the future, successfully, and continue to provide the quality venue for our membership.  I am happy to see the activism within the region, for without it, we would not be able to deal with the concerns of the 21st century as they affect Mensa.

ProxyQuest has been very successful for American Mensa and for Region 2.  The support and efforts of the membership have not gone unnoticed, both by me and by the AMC.  As of the writing of this report, Region 2 has the largest participation, and I credit this to the hard work done at the grassroots level within the region.  Congratulations to all involved.

The groups of Region 2 are well known for their successful Regional Gatherings, and as such, there is nothing but kudos for the local groups, in respect to their production during the past year.  The coming year appears to be every bit as exciting, and with some prudent experimentation by the organizers, they should continue to be well attended and enjoyable.  We were fortunate to have Charlottesville, VA chosen as the site for the March 2004 AMC meeting, and it went well, and with the cooperation of the AMC, itself, the concerns of Region 2 were voiced and heard.  Efforts are being made to ensure that the next time that our turn comes that an equally successful venue is proposed.

A special mention of Delaware Mensa is necessary for their ability to win the Group of the Year Award in 2003.  With the help of the RVC, Sallie Banko, one of our groups was able to obtain the award.  It is imperative that we make sure that Delaware continue on their upward movement, and hopefully, their spirit will infect the other groups, so that we can continue to see such excellence, and win more awards for the region.  Although winning is not the most important thing, recognition for hard work is, and it is important that such efforts not go unnoticed.

The volunteerism within the region is to be commended.  The hard work of previous years has gone recognized, and some individuals have decided to pass the baton.  As such, Sheila Gross has been replaced by Selena Updegraf as Scholarship Chair,  Marc Lederman, in his effort to redirect his efforts is working with Marianne Demkό to bring her up to speed on the website, and Dave Cahn has been appointed Ombudsman.  The website is in the progress of being upgraded to the newer techniques and services that other regions provide, and that includes the storage of local group newsletters, an announcement board for officers, and a discussion board for the membership, called AML-Region2 on Yahoo.  We will continue to upgrade as the needs and wants of the membership and those that AML require.

Here’s looking forward to a productive and enjoyable post-ProxyQuest year!
